"The Welshpool Festival Of Transport took place on Powis Castle Showground on 18 and 19 June 2005.
The festival was officially opened on Saturday by the Mayor of Welshpool, Cllr Ann Davis. The small ceremony was followed by a parade through the town.
On Sunday, Richard Thorpe (Alan Turner from tv's Emmerdale) was guest celebrity. He drove round the arena in a Model T Ford and also took part in the parades as well as mingling with the crowds. There were two parades during the day.
There were over 300 exhibitors and an estimated 2,000 visitors.
Entertainment included catering stands, trade stalls, two organs, K9 Capers Dog Display Team, fairground ride, bouncy castle, birds of prey demonstration, Punch & Judy and more.
Exhibits included cars, motor cycles, pedal cycles, a tricycle, vans, lorries, buses, stationary engines, fire engines and military vehicles.
Vehicles were invited into the central arena throughout the weekend, where the drivers were interviewed by Rozanne Corfield.
The camping facilities were well-used, as was the beer tent with its live entertainment.
The weather was excellent until Sunday afternoon, when the second thunderstorm put an end to the proceedings around 4pm.
The committee feel the weekend was a great success and all the happy faces made the preparatory work well worthwhile."
