Welshpool, A Celebration of Music Festival

Welshpool, A Celebration of Music Festival is held over the Bank Holiday weekend from Friday 22 May to Monday 25 May 2009. Rosemary Charman told us more about the festival in April 2009:

"The line up for the festival includes so far: Headliners on Saturday in the Assembly Room Joe Le Taxi; with support bands including Colour Sunday, Fight The Bear, Heather Bebb Band, Rob Dunnsford, James Charman and of course the winner of the Talent Competition being held on Saturday 9 May, plus many others.

The tickets also allow entry into the Corn Exchange as well, where from 11am a smaller stage will host acts such as Strap The Button, Field-Day, Jai Jinx, Ghost Phase, Poolside Tricks, Poppy Jones and more to be confirmed. Plus there will be an "Open Mic" area in the Market.

In addition to the above, there will be an auction of music memorabilia held in the Afternoon, and the items will be on display in the Market during Saturday morning. Street entertainers will be around the town.

The Modern JIve is being held 1-2.30 and the SALSA workshop is 3-4.30 on the Sunday 24th.

The programme for Sunday at Moltos include dance workshops from 1pm onwards (for which there will be a small additional fee) 1-00pm to 2-30pm.

Jive Workshop with Monty Jive.

Fun introductory Modern Jive class with Gordon and Claire. Jive the afternoon away in a friendly & sociable atmosphere. Singles & couples of all ages welcome. 1 pm to 2.30pm.

Salsa workshop with Mark Fitch between 3 pm and 4.30pm.

Mark discovered Salsa in 1999 has been dancing for about 10 years and teaching beginners to improver level for the last 9 years teaching Salsa, Cha Cha, Meringue and Bachata, and having fun with many friends along the way.

Combined weekend tickets, however do include entry into the evening performance from 6pm which includes acts from Shayne Prince and Alan Herbert and the winners from the Talent Competitions being held on Saturday 16 May plus others yet to be confirmed.

Bank Holiday Monday 25 May, the Town Hall hosts an Open Mic stage from 11am until 5pm with the addition of street entertainers to add to the Carnival atmosphere.

In the Assembly Room from 8pm there is an evening of Strictly Ballroom presented by Mike Breeze of Rainbow Records. Tickets available from Rainbow Records £10 in advance or £12.50 on the door.

Tickets for the Friday Night Concert in the Assembly Room at Welshpool Town Hall featuring tribute band Blue Bayou - Roy Orbison The Legend, the UK's Number 1 Everly Brothers Tribute - "Two of A Kind" and special guest Tony Paradee as Johnny Cash are on sale at The Factory Shop priced £12.50.

Tickets for events being held in the Town Hall from 10am on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 from 1pm in Moltos Nightclub, Berriew Street are now available at the following outlets :
Natural Rhythms, Music Shop in Bear Passage
Cutting Company Hairdressers in Berriew Street
Tourist Information Centre
The Town Clerk's Office

Daily tickets are priced at £6.00 per day for adults, £3.00 for 5-16years (under 5's free) or Weekend passes are available at £10.00 adult and £5.00 5-16s.
