Medieval Woodlands

A new medieval history site is being created at Parc Clychau'r Gog (Bluebell Park) near Llanerfyl in Powys. During the summer of 2005, a group of volunteers have been hard at work recreating examples of medieval life. Click through some photos sent in by one of the organisers Gary Ball.

I like your bread oven, but why didn't you make a mold out of sand rather branches. Wouldn't a sand mold have been much easier?

For those who have taken the time to study and learn the properties of era specific materials eg the archaeological remains of CLAY bread ovens then you appreciate the need for a hazel frame of wattle to create a former for the clay and straw daub that covers it, is then dried and then fired...come and have a look at our finished bread oven at the project, get involved and you can test that chocolate tea pot theory. I've been working on the site with these guys for a while now, and I promise you the place is looking great! The medieval barn is almost finished and the place is just cracking! I highly recommend going for a vist!

Wooden bread oven? From the people who brought you chocolate teapot, I suppose?
In the Middle Ages, they weren't simple: they were more aware of the properties of materials than those of us growing up in post industrial society.
