John Tedstone on the Gala Weekend:

"As in previous years, the railway operated the most intensive timetable possible, with all available locomotives and carriages in service, as well as some wagons which were used in several mixed and freight-only trains. There were also steam-powered lorries and cars in action, and the Chester open-top bus provided extra services running between Welshpool and Llanfair Caereinion. The real ale bar and the Llanfair Tea Room also provided welcome refreshment for the many visitors during each day."

The Welshpool Area Group, which supports the W & L by looking after Raven Square station, had a presence at the gala on Sunday. We had our gazebo on the lawn by the station entrance, and this was manned by myself and my wife Stephanie. Also in attendance were our dog Sally and our 1959 Ford Popular 103E, the latter being of great interest to visitors as per usual. As well as publicising WAG we were able to provide information about the railway and Welshpool. We also sold transport-related books and videos to raise funds for WAG.
