"The Guilsfield Singers began as a concert party more than 20 years ago, putting on musical variety shows in their home village, near Welshpool in mid Wales.
This evolved eight years later into the Guilsfield Singers, initially under the guidance of Audrey Beeston, then with Suzanne Edwards, and now with their new Musical Director Gerry Howe.
The Guilsfield Singers have an established reputation for imaginative and exciting performance of a wide selection of choral works.
They are a mixed choir drawing on musical talent from the Welshpool, Newtown and Oswestry area of Mid-Wales.
Over the years they have raised many thousands of pounds for both local and national charities and have enjoyed success in choral competitions.
Their president is Jayne Davies, who has composed several pieces for the choir, and vice presidents include well-known local baritone Christopher Booth-Jones.
Their repertoire includes music from the sixteenth to the twenty-first century, and from composers as diverse as Bach and Bernstein to Mozart and Mathias.
If you would like to sing with the choir, they always welcome new members, particularly tenors and basses!
They are also keen to attract more sopranos. If you are interested, please ring the Secretary, Pauline Furnell, on (01938) 559612.
Forthcoming events are:
Wednesday 4 April 2007, 7.30pm: An Easter Concert at St Mary's Church, Welshpool, including the Fauré Requiem with Christopher Booth-Jones, baritone.
Saturday 14 July, 7.30 pm: Supper Concert, Guilsfield Community Centre

Chris Emmett, St Nicholas' Church, Child Okeford,
I've never been a member or heard them, but the MD, Gerry Howe is the man who was solely responsible for my musical education. I was a chorister in his school choir at Terra Nova and he never failed to impress or teach me something new. I've not seen him in six years, but here I am now, a Director of Music myself. Thank you, Gerry.
