Tales from the Museum

Ceredigion Museum Skeleton Mosaic Ceredigion Museum is celebrating World Book Day by asking local people to write a chilling story based on the Coliseum Theatre in Aberystwyth or the Ceredigion Museum collection. Winning stories will be published on this website.

Written by Stuart Evans from Ceredigion Museum:

"Help us celebrate World Book Day at Ceredigion Museum by adding your story to the list of tales that will be read out. Professional actors will be reading stories throughout the day and one of these might be yours, if you are the lucky winner of our writing competition. There will be prizes and a selection of the stories will be published in a special booklet.

Simply write a chilling story in Welsh or English using the Coliseum theatre, Aberystwyth or the Ceredigion Museum collection as a base for your tale.

Remember, we have a human skeleton dug up at Aberystwyth castle, some fantastic stuffed animals including a sheep-dog and a horses head. There is even a very old and dusty child's shoe found up a chimney in a chapel house called Hepsibah which was said to stop evil spirits from entering the house. These museum objects could all help you create a tale to weave some magic into your story. We have many more on show so do come and visit.

Get your entry to Ceredigion Museum by 4.30 on Friday, February 17th 2006.

Include your name, age and address as well as telephone number and e-mail address.

There are three categories - up to 11 years old; 12-20 years old; and over 21. Good luck!"

I think that this competition is a brilliant idea, but I think thatb 12-20 is a pretty big age gap! For instance, someone who turned 12 the day before the entries are due in might be up against someone who turns 21 the day after the competition. It would be fairer to have 12-16 and 16-20, I think.
