"After having an argument with my wife, I decided to go for a drive to clear my head. I stopped for a cigarette, and finding myself on a deserted road just outside Brecon, I found a phone box and decided to give my wife a call to tell her I was ok.
There wasn't a house for miles it was so quiet and dark, when just after I spoke to my wife I was quite startled to find a man wearing a rescuer's outfit, a hard hat with a light on and fluorescent orange jacket and muddy boots standing a few feet away from the phonebox.
From feeling annoyed at the man who had obviously overheard my conversation I felt concern at having hogged the phone whilst the man was having to wait for me in what could have possibly been an emergency.
I quickly put the phone down and made a move to get from there as quickly as possible as I thought he wanted to call the emergency services.
As the man made his way passed me he said, "You'd better go home buddy, you need each other", which made me think again what a rude person this must be to have listened in on a private conversation.
As I held the door open for him he reached his hand out to get it when..you'll never believe what happened next. I still can't ... there was an almighty bang....the phone flew off the receiver and banged against the window of the booth - the door swung shut and the man had totally disappeared!
I was a bit shocked to say the least...but not really scared, more puzzled really, as to where he'd gone... but the story doesn't end there.
I walked back to the car and lit a cigarette, in full view of the phonebox. I was there for a good 20 minutes - just staring at the receiver which was just dangling off the hook. I suppose I was wondering when the rest of them would come - rescuers, dogs, police, but no-one came.
On my way home, a starry night turned into one of the worst driving conditions I had ever encountered. I could see only a few feet in front of me, and to make matters worse, my car seemed to be having trouble. I really thought I wasn't going to make it home that night.
When I got home my wife said "I've been trying to phone you back to say drive carefully but I just heard an engaged tone...but after repeatedly trying it started ringing and a man answered. I said hello thinking it was you, but all he said was sorry you have the wrong number".
I was amazed as I had been sitting in the car watching the phonebox for about 20 mins and no-one had entered or left in that time.
We are both still stunned by this and would love to know if anyone has had a similar experience in or around Brecon." This story was sent to us by Martin.

Perhaps this ghost-man-thing died in a similar situation in the same place. Perhaps he also, some time ago, had a row with his wife and came to the same phone box only he didn't have the luck you had. Perhaps the fact that you were in similar situations brought him back, for the nostalgia of it all. Only he doesn't want you to go through his same fate he did, and he told you to go home.

That is soooo freaky. I wonder if that man died during a rescue there? How did anyone answer in the middle of nowhere if the phone was also off the hook. That is sooooo weird.
