Ghost Train

Last updated: 24 November 2005

Hannah has written about a school trip took to Talybont in Powys which took a spooky turn.

"It was a cold winter night and we were on a school trip to Talybont for the weekend. We were sleeping in dorm 4 - no-one was sleeping in dorm 5.

Me and my friend Lucy went into dorm 5 and we were sure we heard train noises and screaming, but no one else heard it.

We asked the teacher what had been there before it became what it is now, and he said it had been a train station, which we thought was weird."

I beleive that Talybont is REALLY haunted. This year we had 3 days stay there, girls get the new section n the boys get the old one. I was in Dorm C. Everyone else who came from Talybont from lat yar n the year before that etc. told us that they heard train noices n screaming, the screaming sounded like children! On the first night it was about midnight me n my dorm mates heard a train goes pass 2 times frm our side then another from the other side. It was like it was circling the whole building as well as the new section.

I believe Hannah when she says she heard a train. I stayed there in about 1977/78 on a school trip and I heard the same thing in the middle of the night. I didn't think anything of it, until talking with my cousin a couple of years later. They'd been on the same trip, and knew about the ghost story - before then I was convinced it was a real train I had heard. Of course, they reminded me there were no more trains on that line! Maybe it was the owners of the place playing tricks - but no one had mentioned the ghost stories beforehand.

I believe all of your storie, my friend Jarrad stayed at an old train station in Talybont with his class from his primary school. (He told me all of this), he said that this was one of the most creepiest places he's ever been to, they saw weird thing like pictures moving in the night, and things went missing. He said he never heard a train though, but lots of websites on Google do say there are people who have heard a train. Anyway the girls were all fine staying there they thought it was haunted but the places they were sleeping in had no ghosts in it, they only affected the boys.

I've been to Talybont and the place has a weird feel from the minute you step through the door. I remember staying in dorm five and I personally never experienced anything but many friends told me about bumps and bangs but I assumed it was just others playing jokes, but seeing as so many others have had similar experiences....maybe there is something there!?

I find it fascinating to read all these comments and accounts. It only just dawned on me I could google for this location - about 25 years ago I lived in South Wales and went on a weeks school trip based at the old station - I remember us lads being a bit concerned when we heard footseps on metal plates which sounded like the fire escape in the middle of the night despite nobody being there.

I went to Talybont about 4 years ago with my school. I remember waking up in the middle of the night crying coz I thought I'd lost my camera. As stupid as it sounds..before I went to bed I'd left my camera on the bed side table but something in my mind woke me up to tell me something was wrong. My friends helped me look for my camera and it ended up in the bottom draw which no one had moved. When I went to get the pictures developed 1 picture had come out from about 30. The rest where just plain white blank images. But the strange thing was I didnt take the 1 picture that came out properly.

I have been to Talybont many times and if if remember correctly i think there is a picture of the train wreck in the gents toilet of the Usk Hotel just accross the road. The building used for the outward bound centre was the old railway station and the train was on its side on the road outside a complete wreck.

There was a a train wreck near what was Tal-y-bont railway station, after a run away train came down the 7 mile bank. I can't remember the date. Or perhaps somebody or something is trying to say that the old railway should be rebuilt which to my mind at least is a good idea.

I belive Hannah because ghosts are everywhere. There are 5 ghosts in my house as people came to check it out. Doors open and close everywhere but sometimes you just don't see it.

I stayed at Talybont in Febuary and stayed in Dorm 5 with Harriet and 4 other girls. I didn't hear or see anything strange but thought there was something creepy about the place at night as the boys in Dorm 3 heard noises and saw things outside. The fire exit door did keep opening by itself and I believe what Hannah said.

I slept in Dorm 5 and so did my brother, it was a weird room, I remember the boys telling me the doors would open and shut with no reasoning whatsoever and it was a firm fire exit door, so for it to open and close in such manner was more than just odd.

I believe Hannah as I stayed in Talybont in February and stayed in Dorm 5. I din't hear any sounds but I think Ailsa from Scotland is being a bit mean to some children as she can't prove that it is kids messing about.

I think it's probably just some other kids playing jokes on you. It doesn't sound a good long detailed story so I find this story hard to believe.
