Take a photo tour around the centre... Which organisation are you involved with?
Rose: We work as volunteers for Healthy Living Centre, Ystradgynlais. The centre holds many different activities from yoga classes to kickboxing and sewing.
What sort of volunteer work do you do and where?
Christine: We're involved in running children play schemes, water colour sessions, discos for children, quiz nights for adults. On Thursday, we pack boxes of fruit and veg and sell them to the people of Ystrad. The money goes back to the community.
How did you get started?
Christine: Maria, the Health Promotion Officer at the Healthy Living Centre, introduced me to the work at the centre, and I just seemed to get into it that way.
How long have you been a volunteer?
Christine: 2 and a half years
Rose: 12 months.
Are there any special skills you need to be a volunteer?
Rose: You just have to be able to speak with the people. Patience is very important and you also have to be aware of hygiene issues here.
Christine: You have to be positive with everything you do.
How many hours a week do you give?
Rose - 20 hours a week.
Christine: I give around 20 hours a week of my time as I work at the centre four days a week.
What are the best thing about being a volunteer?
Christine: The best thing is you feel good because your helping other people and it makes you feel good too. The worst thing must be walking the street putting leaflets in houses to try and raise awareness of the centre.
Rose: The best thing is you feel good because you're out and about helping people.
