Honddu Dippers

Litter pick May 2005 Barbara Jackson came on board the BBC Wales Bus when we were in Brecon in February 2006. She's involved with two groups who give up their time to keep Brecon looking spick and span.

Which organisation are you involved with?
Brecon Bright & Beautiful/Honddu Dippers

What sort of volunteer work do you do and where?
Enhancing Brecon with flowers and identifying untidy areas, also litter-picking in town and on the riverbanks.

How did you get started?
Honddu Dippers (riverbanks) started 2 years ago through Brecon Action (regeneration group) and Brecon Volunteer Bureau. Brecon Bright & Beautiful was started one year ago instigated by Brecon Town Council.

How long have you been a volunteer?
Honddu Dippers has been going 2 years and Brecon Bright & Beautiful one year.

Are there any special skills you need to be a volunteer?
Time and an awareness of things needing to be done.

How many hours a week/month do you give?
Approximately 4 hours.

What are the best and worst things about being a volunteer?
Best things - getting out in the fresh air and seeing the beautiful place in which we live and knowing that we can improve it. Worse things - being self-employed and working 7 days a week it is hard sometimes to fit in voluntary work.
