Contact the Elderly

Last updated: 24 August 2007

Contact the Elderly was established in 1965 and organises meetings for elderly people who live alone. In August 2007 Mid Wales Development Officer, Elizabeth Morgan, described the work of the volunteers:

"Would you like to volunteer, helping older people in Newtown, but perhaps you have not got much time?

You CAN make a real difference to isolated, older people's lives by joining Contact the Elderly for Sunday afternoon teas: as a driver just once a month or as a tea party host only once or twice a year!

Contact the Elderly is a national charity, working to reduce the isolation and loneliness among older people in our society by organising Sunday afternoon teas.

You can do a lot to help without putting in a great deal of your time. At the same time, volunteers get to spend an afternoon in some lovely company, share stories and laughter and enjoy home-made tea and cakes. What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

As one volunteer put it "I joined because I wanted to be of use to others, but to be honest I often wonder who's getting the benefit!"

If you feel encouraged to help do contact us. We are urgently looking for volunteers in the Newtown area. For contact information and information on driving or hosting for Contact the Elderly take a look at our website, listed to the right of this page."
