A Voice for You Newtown
Sometimes people with a learning disability find it difficult to make themselves heard and understood by others. An advocate can assist them in ensuring that their voice is heard and their needs met. We recruit and train volunteers to become long term advocates for our clients. We also recruit short term advocates who deal with brief one off issues. All advocates receive free induction training. Ongoing training is also available. Full support is given from the AVFY co-ordinators. Many people volunteer because they want to give something back to the community. Our volunteers have discovered that they gain as much from their advocacy partnership as they give and find this very rewarding.
