You need to be good at listening without jumping to conclusions.

Probably on average about 10-15 hours a week.
What are the best and worst things about being a volunteer?
It's very rewarding, but it can be overwhelming sometimes.

Close, but they're "a confidential listening and information service, run by students for students", not a counselling service. They certainly don't give advice, preferring instead to help the caller reach their own conclusions. If you're after a counselling service or advice, try the aptly named Student Advice and Counselling Centre.

Aberystwyth Nightline provides advice and counselling for local students. The service is staffed by trained volunteers and one of them has filled in our questionnaire although wishes to remain anonymous due to the nature of the work.
