"Tregaron Square has had its share of activities over the years and has
been the focal point to many community-based activities. May the
20th 2006 was no different as 22 Clwb Cerdded Crwydro Caron members
waited eagerly for an Evans Coaches bus that would transport them back
in time, nearly 400 years in fact, to the time of Twm Siôn Cati.
Twm Siôn Cati is regarded as one of Tregaron's most notable sons and
the walking club members, led by Dafydd Wyn Morgan, were to follow a
direct route from Twm's cave near Ystradffin, Rhandirmwyn to his
birthplace at Porthyffynnon Tregaron.
Safe to say that all 22 walkers completed the arduous 16.09 mile
challenge and arrived back at Tregaron by 6 o'clock that evening with
a sense of achievement and in the knowledge that they had followed a
route that Twm himself had probably once followed on horseback over
400 years earlier!
It is hoped that many events such as this will begin to flourish as the 400th anniversary of Twm's death will soon be with
us in 2009.
All walkers received a commemorative badge and a certificate of
completion at a celebratory meal at the Talbot Hotel Tregaron where
guests of honour were Margaret Jones, Margaret Isaac and Alun Isaac,
all three connected with the recent publication of a book named the
Tale of Twm Siôn Cati.
Many thanks to all those who supported the walk but a special thanks
to Helen Jones and Frances Morgan for providing the walkers with much
need supplies at halfway point, including Twm's Tarts. Diolch a llongyfarchiadau i chi gyd!"
