Rallying road safety
Last updated: 27 November 2007
In November 2007 children at Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon in Trefeglwys designed road safety posters, two of which were painted on the car that champion rally driver, David Higgins, used to compete in the 2007 Wales Rally GB. His wife, Kara Higgins, describes the background to the story:
More about the poster competition...
"Our daughter attends Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon in Trefeglwys and has had bad press over recent months due to the Estyn Report and as a result is under special measures.
To try and raise the moral of the children and the profile of the school David and his sponsors have organised a competition for the school. Each pupil will design a poster which relates to road safety which should reflect saftey on the road on a day to day basis as well as highlight safety to spectators on rallies.
Bridget Farrington and her colleague Sam (who is trained in animation) both work for Powys Road Safety and they went along to the school to talk to the children about road safety and they decided to use the traditional STOP, LOOK, LISTEN, THINK theme for the posters.
Every child in the school has designed a poster, three winners from each class have been chosen to have their posters made into A4 or bigger stickers to go on David's car for Wales Rally GB the winners will also be given a £10 book voucher each and the class that has put in the most effort will be treated to a VIP day out to the world famous Enginuity exhibition at Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire.
As David competes in the British Rally Championship, his team pay for T.V rights so the children will see there stickers on the car.
Earlier this year David also competed in the Cyclesportive event in London where by he cycled the first 120 miles of the Tour De France, he was sponsored and raised over £1,500 to buy a smartboard for his daughters classroom and give a donation to the Wales Air Ambulance."

Hi i think that it is very good having speed cameras because my mum goes over the top so keep them and do not get the police involved.
