Community Transport

Last updated: 11 January 2008

Community Transport buses in Powys Find out more about the services provided by community transport scheme which can provide a vital link to many people when public transport isn't an option.

By David Cooke from Powys Community Transport:

"There is an extensive network of Community Transport (C.T.) Schemes in Powys complimenting the public transport services.

They provide an essential service both for groups of people who find it difficult to use conventional forms of transport e.g. people with mobility problems and people living in remoter areas that are not well served by public transport.

The schemes in the main are in the Voluntary Sector, being managed by committees of volunteer trustees. They range from Dial-a Rides operating their own accessible minibuses through volunteer car schemes to taxi card schemes.

Funding for these schemes comes from their own income generation, and fund raising efforts and from limited financial support from the Local Authority and Local Health Board."
