Any advice for a noob girl who's just a bit chicken? I love surfing but if I go out too far, I sometimes start to panic. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas, or if this is just a "face your fears" thing, and maybe Ill just learn there's nothing to be afraid of in the sea. I surf in borth, so I guess atleast Im not in Oz with the sharks, right? Right...?

Hi George, There are loads of hotels right along the sea front in Aber itself, you also have a few coastal resorts again with great access to beaches. Aber is probably the best to suit all with ammenities, national library of wales is based in Aberystwyth if that helps. Weather well its not Aus so bring a layer or two! frocasters promise a good summer but you know what they're like!!! Sea temps approx 15C(summer suit 3x2). For surf your out of season but you never know and you have a load of coast to explore reef and beachy's for different abilities and tide options. For surf gear contact aberadventures.com. ! Good luck in the family quest.

We are a family of surfers from Australia coming to Wales to surf and trace our family history. We are planning to come late June into July. Is this a good time of year for waves? What is the water temperature? What are the air temperature and weather conditions? Where is a good central location to stay by the sea with high quality accommodation and ammenities for Father and son surfers, wife non surfer and Grandparents non surfers? We appreciate any feedbackThanksGeorge

Perhaps when you wanabees will grow up and realise there are no decent breaks in the northen hemisphere perhaps you would like to check out some good wet at places such as Wewak or Hula in Papua New Guinea. I'm not trying to dis you guys but you've not lived till you've dangled 5 or 10 in the Coral Sea or the Timor Sea! Even the best from Oz come and ride up here!

Llangranog can get a sick wave now and again it got to about 5ft clean as you like on the weekend!!! If there's a decent ground swell and a light offshore wind then head down Llangranog. It gets blown out real easy on onshore winds and can get quite heavy. My mate snapped his board down here so don't take it lightly.

Hells Mouth Local - Aber is pants in the summer. The best bet is to head south for Pembroke or Gower.

I've been surfing on & off for years now with my brother Stephen. The main thing to do is just take your time and enjoy the waves, if your trying to master surfing on your first few attempts.....Don't bother, it's a fine art that takes years.......I still haven't cracked it!!!!!!!

I've been surfing for over 15 years and I still think the surfbreak off Tywyn is the best in the north, even in the whole of wales. You must check it out.

Hi Dai, apologies for my late relpy, I'm norm in the messageboard. Ideally we need a good sized swell, 6-8ft+ and anything over 6-7sec wave period is good. Check your winds and try to get in just before or after the swell hits as often the sw's will mess things up once it's on us. You can get a rough idea from the webcam now too. It doesn't show you any breaking waves but if there's white water up there, it's worth going for a look elsewhere, further down the coast... You can also check the Abersoch webcam and gauge how big it is up there as it's norm bigger the further south you go.

Hi Dai, no surf line as such for this area, I'm afraid - it's the wild west! Pop into the message board - We have surfers from all over Wales in there now so you'll prob meet a few locals in there. I know we already have some from Borth, Angelsey and Hells Mouth. Follow the link from the main page - message board and you'll find us.

Just moved into the area and my nearest break will be Aberystwyth. Is there a 'surfline'(like PJ's on Gower)that I can ring that gives the up to date surf conditions, or is there a website thatI can access for the same information?

"Remember to keep an eye on the tides around here especially if you're learning. It comes in pretty quick and can be dangerous on rocky beaches."
