Llangrannog

Langrannog

This is a popular spot with surfers when there's a decent swell running from the SW.

This small bay in southern Ceredigion can get some really nice surf but becomes too deep at high tide so it's strictly a low to mid tide spot and very sheltered.

There are several large rocks on either side of the break so be careful in bigger surf.

Surfer at LlangrannogIf you're surfing towards dusk, keep an eye out for Huw Puw. He was a sailor who died in the area back in the 18th century and some say he still wanders the shoreline from time to time. More...

Surfed grannog for many a year- see that dood rolling on the bottom, thats me -if the main beach is down go to the right to kilborth beach, where waves seem to come from nowhere, and there are even less people... Grannog is great for the after surf beach fire too, where as other places get uptight... and yea, the place has that magic, not even gona try explaining that! hav a great one...

My parents own a cottage in llangrannog. Llangrannnog hasn't got the best wave it closes on you too soon so you dont get much of a wave.

Llangranog beach is lovely, but it's the mountains that are absolutely gorgeous. Especially in the Winter when it's a bit too rough to stay on your board! On the other hand, if u gott w/suit - go for it...!

Tim Wynne-Jones from Aston Clinton
Llangranog brings back great memories of family summer holidays in the 50s & 60s when we spent the month of August in the village. Stayed in the cottage next to the Pentre Arms right on the front. Learnt to body board on the old fashioned wooden boards. Good surf with incoming tide.

I loves it I do, I'm now living in Oz and loving it but I do miss Cranog, the boys, the Farm, the Ship and of course every person who calls it home, it's a place of Legends if you've not been, get on it and definatly look out for that merry japster Pob......One Life, Use It.

    Jonathon from Aberaeron
I do a fair bit of surfing in Llangranog, it's almost the best place for it around here. Aberarth which is just outside of Aberaeron is much better for surf 7ft sometimes. Or if there is no waves or very little waves then go to Cwmtydu and do some cliff jumping! I do cliff jumping there almost once a week with a load of other ppl! If your lucky you might see us on the Newquay Boat Rides around the coast!
    Mon Aug 22 10:09:15 2005

    Liv
Me and a couple of mates just went down 2 Newquay (wales)and visited Llangranog for a day...it was flat but after the seaweed the water is sooo clear you can see your feet, it's lush to swim in. Some really nice lifeguards too :P

    Steve Murphy
Llangrannog has it all Great waves when they get going - good snorkelling and rock jumping when it's flat. Two good pubs right on the shorefront and spectacular views from the cliffs. Second favourite beach in the area after Mwnt.
    Mon Jul 25 13:40:29 2005

    Sam
Quite a nice beach but swell only gets about 5ft tops. Gets blown out all the time. Best surf I've ever seen was last year after America had a hurricane, it was top class.
    Tue Jun 7 21:44:40 2005

    ritchie liverpool
been here once and liked the place.
    Sun Jun 5 09:46:10 2005

    Takeaway
No surf on this coast, try Pembroke, they are SO much more friendly. Aberporth NEVER works and is highly localised if there is an inch of swell. Stick to the tourist breaks of pembrokshire and the Gower, they like you down there.
    Sun Apr 24 12:12:57 2005

    Richard from Worcester
Is there ever any surf at Aberporth or is Llangrannog the best on the stretch?

Llangrannog, smells a bit like fish. But that's only if there's a fish on the beach and you're standing near it. Pubs good, there's two! and they have stella.

    Loopy Lou from Llangrannog :o)
My home for 26 years & still loving it. When you come down to surf watch out for Ross if you see him learning to surf its best to keep out of the water as he'd probably knock you off your surfboard! lol

Used to surf here 10 or 12 times a year. Always found G a better option though on the same swell from low water onwards. Don't know what the banks are like there at the moment, been away for a while.

    surfergirl from mid wales
Llangrannog doesn't break all that often and you need local knowledge to get a wave in the area. Super crowded in hols, you'll be running over kids on every wave. Better head further north to Aber or south to Fresh.
    Sat Jul 3 09:47:51 2004

    Helen from Weaverham
We come to Llangrannog every year, and still find things to delight us, the walk round the horseshoe is always delightful, and to sit on the cliffs either side of the bay gives one a sense of timelessness. Can't wait to go back to where the locals say "welcome home".
