"Tregaron is one of those old time race meetings where the fun of the sport is still evident in the relaxed atmosphere of this typical 'Cardi' meeting. The weather was superb with a cooling breeze alongside the sunshine giving ideal conditions for horses and spectators.
Glan Dancer belonging to Talgarreg inn keeper Hefin Evans notched up a win in the Nursery section with Robin Lloyd from Painscastle and 'cardi' bred Seren Penlan second while Dream Catcher (Langford Pontardawe) was third.
The Novice was a straight race where Chinatown Maori (Jones Llanllwni) looked set to continue his winning way with Debbie Hitchcock on board however the camera was called for as Coalford Time (Hardwick Brecon) put in a late challenge, but he had to settle for second with Jamies Girl and Marie Lamport from Cribyn was third.
The Grade A heats were next with the little chestnut mare Believe (Crowther Llanidloes) driven by Derek Pritchard from Rhosgoch, running a determined race to claim victory from the closing Live the Dream (Langford Pontardawe) with Blackbird (Lloyd Kington) in third. In the second heat Derek secured a back to back double as Obi-Wan-Kenobi (Williams Llanafan) showed his class beating the improving Lady Sherman (Lloyd Kington) and Bestman (Owens Shobdon).
In the Grade B Debbie Hitchcock again made the running this time on Meadowbranch Mike (Jones Llanllwni) with Vodka Express and Horst Weigel from Llanddewi Velfrey chasing, this time Vodka Express benefited from the camera decision while Bon Beti (Evans-Jones Rhymney) was third.
Aberelan (Morgan Rhymney) took first prize in the first Baby Novice race with Dafydd's Boy (Harris Llanllwni) in second and Ynyston Tommy (Isaacs Ystrad Meurig) in third. The combination of the Williams family from Llanafan and the top flight stable of Derek Pritchard produced the winner of the second Baby Novice race, Hasty Flight beating Man of the Day (Harris Llanllwni) and Ashbrooks Billy Boy (Ward Talsarn).
Meadowbranch Mike made up for his earlier defeat when he won the dash for the Jones family from Llanllwni with family favourite Blackfield Willy (Barton Clunderwen) in second and Scoot 66 (Bevan Llanddewi) in third
The grade A final produced a lovely run for the evergreen Blackbird with owner Samantha Lloyd in the seat as they powered to the front and headed for home, the grey Live the Dream (Langford Pontardawe) gave chase and finished a close second while Obi-Wan-Kenobi (Williams Llanafan) was not far behind in third.
The consolation always holds a special place in Wales & Borders fixtures and Double Top (Hitchcock Haverfordwest) one of the most dependable of horses made light of his handicap to claim victory from Time Traveller (Bevan Llanddewi) in second with the baby Today's Future (Hughes Cwmbach) in third.
