St Harmon

Monty Williams

Last updated: 08 August 2006

Monty Williams has lived all his life in the small, rural village of St Harmon near Rhayader. At the age of 85, he decided to publish a book about the history of Mid Wales, using the stories and photos he'd collected over the years. Use the links below to read extracts from 'A Glimpse of Beautiful Mid Wales' and to view pictures of the area around St Harmon.

Many years ago I was evacuated to the village of St Harmons, I lived with a family called Jones, they had a son - Roy and a daughter Vangy or Evangeline. They were very good to me for the years I was there but after returning to my real family I lost touch with them. If - by some strange quirk of fate - you remember me and are reading this, I still think of the place I called home for those years. Marie.

As a child we would travel from Banstead in Surrey to St Harmon every August, staying with Monty. I have wonderful memories of those holidays and the beautiful scenery of the area. Mid Wales is a truly special place.
