Gorse Farm
Last updated: 15 August 2007
A small wetland reserve, Gorse Farm's pond and marshy grassland provide a precious wildlife haven in an urban setting.
This reserve consists of a balancing pond and adjacent marshy grassland. The pond is dominated by Reedmace, and Reed Bunting are seen around the margins.
The pond is home to Mallard, whilst dragonflies, damselflies and butterflies, including the Wall Brown, frequent its edge.
The marshy grassland is predominantly the tussocky Tufted Hair-grass; in and around the tussocks you may see amphibians such as Common Frog, Common Toad, Smooth Newt and sometimes the rare Great Crested Newt.
