Cors Fochno

Cors Fochno, Borth
Set behind the seaside resort of Borth, Cors Fochno is the only biosphere reserve in the whole of Wales.

Cors Fochno is a raised peat mire which has been designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve as one of the most impressive lowland raised bogs in the UK.

Access to the bog is restricted and you need to get a special Day Permit from the Ynyslas Visitor Centre before you can visit. The bog can be hazardous so stick to the boardwalk and follow directions.

Part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve, Cors Fochno is home to several interesting plants - including sphagnum mosses and three species of carnivorous plant.

Families of otters have made their home here and a small pack of Welsh Mountain Ponies also lives on the bog.

Red Kites, Buzzards, Peregrine and Harriers can be seen flying overhead.

  • Dyfi Estuary
