Last updated: 11 September 2007
Dr Lizzie Wilberforce from The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales is responsible for 21 nature reserves in Ceredigion. Here's her guide to Coed Maidie B Goddard near Cardigan.
| Designation: | Wildlife Trust Reserve |
| Nearest town/village: | Llechryd near Cardigan |
| Site Grid Reference: | SN210437 |
| Access Point(s): | SN208438, SN212438, SN212435 |
| Directions: | Enter Llechryd on the A484 and take the very minor road that meets the A484 where the bridge joins the road. Follow this lane parallel to the river till it turns sharply right: here continue forward onto a yet smaller lane signed 'Penlan'. |
| Parking: | There is a small parking bay for 3 cars on the left, just after the sewage works. |
| Access: | Access is via permissive footpaths through the site. Terrain is generally reasonable but is not suitable for wheelchairs. |
| Description: | This quite large reserve is a mixture of meadow, regenerating ash woodland, and a small area of conifers. Cattle graze the flower-rich meadows in summer, which contain plants like pink Ragged Robin in the wetter areas. Badgers use the older areas of woodland. One area of woodland is regenerating ash, growing on an area that was once conifer plantation. In these woods fallen timber is covered in a carpet of lush moss and the white flowers of the delicate wood sorrel. |
| What to go and see: | Herons, which breed in one of the woodland areas, and a good range of butterflies in the summer. |
