It is owned by the Crown Estate - the Radnorshire Wildlife Trust has a conservation lease but there is also a sporting tenant and various grazing and other commoners' rights.
The common is dominated by large areas of heather with areas of bracken and acid grassland.
Wet flushes support species such as Round-leaved Crowfoot, Shoreweed , Water Purslane and Lesser Twayblade; small pools have Pillwort, Lesser Bladderwort, Bog Pondweed, Spike Rush and Orange Foxtail. Breeding birds include Wheatear, Meadow Pipit, Whinchat, Stonechat, Merlin, Red Grouse, Linnet, Buzzard, Peregrine and Raven.

Directions The common can be reached on foot via many rights of way shown on the OS map. The best access by car is at SO 192 748 - go through the gate and park 100 m beyond - or at SO 153 765, where there is limited parking on the verge.
