I wrote this poem aged 12 for a school's war poetry project. Then aged 19 I came across this page whist studying at Aberystwyth University. Wanting to submit a poem for fun, I hastily scribbled down this one as I had only just remembered it!So I apologise for the spelling mistakes and the shoddy lay-out!I just want to thank everyone for their lovely comments!

In flanders lies scores of graves, where poppies grow, and salute the brave.poppies with their petal red, remind us all that blood was shed. To save us all from condemnation, to make our land a stable nation. yound men and women in their prime gave up their lives to better mine.So when remembrance day comes around, like poppies in their sacred ground. i too will salute the brave, whose lives were lost, for mine to save.So thank the souls lost all to soon, and remember them wher poppies bloom.

This and many of my poems are to be published in books. The first anthology is to appear in schools and shops next spring. I hope you will buy the books. I've now written about 450 poems altogether in the last couple of years. Yesterday I wrote a beautiful poem about the Lily. It's a pity that this poem isn't laid out on the page as a poem should, line by line and verse by verse - 4 lines per verse. Thank you.

Flower of the eternal sleep by Josie Whitehea from Ilkley.
Flower of the eternal sleep Watching with the ones who weep. You, whose lives, so short in bloom, Saw such bloodshed, death and gloom.
You trembled to the sound of guns Which tore to death beloved sons. You fluttered, died. before your time – Dropped blood red petals in their prime.
Crimson poppies ‘neath the clouds –Short lived, yet colourful and proud; Now worn by humans with such pride Remembering those who bravely died.
You represent young lives cut short –Those who, for freedom, bravely fought. Flower of the eternal sleep – Silently your vigil keep.
