I saw a poppy growing in a sea of Flanders mud.
I saw a soldier breathe his last quite near to Mametz Wood.
I heard a gun, a terrible sound, that took a soldiers life.
I heard a politician say, how sad it was for his wife.
Stand up and fight, and fight for right!
Never let them win!
You and I must keep in sight.
What really is a sin.
For soldiers lives are peoples lives,
And we must realize.
That courage, sacrifice and death,
Is not just a soldiers prize.
It is the man who primes the gun,
The man who tells the lies.
He is the enemy to us all,
For here democracy dies.
At that eleventh hour and day,
Remember them with pride.
They were those who went to serve.
We the ones who cried.
But to them we owe a duty,
And we must never let it slip.
That those who made the schism,
Escape not the censorship.

A.R.David Lewis. Oswestry.
A beautiful flowing poem, with a message for us all, and this year for those 306 soldiers, some underage, who have been at last pardoned from the Shot at Dawn disgrace to be openly included.
