Pwllywrach Nature Reserve near Talgarth is owned and managed by the Brecknock Wildlife Trust. Local fossil-hunter Rod Williams sent us a series of photos of the reserve's falls which he took on Boxing Day 2005. He's also written about some of the area's geological features.
"This is the limestone capping of Pwll-y-Wrach falls, not too obvious. It is actually a fossil soil, a paleosol and this type of calcrete limestone is formed in a desert climate today. This one is over 400 million years old. Estimated at 10,000 years to form based on its 2 metre thickness." - Rod Williams
