Theatr Hafren puts on a variety of performances throughout the year, from opera to rock music, drama to comedy. It's one of the regular venues on the Welsh drama circuit so most productions touring the country will perform here.
The theatre does, however, tend to be rather quiet during the high summer months. Find out what's happening this week by going to our listings section or clicking on the link to Theatr Hafren's website on the right-hand side of this page.
The theatre also has a close relationship with Mid Wales Opera. For the past 12 years, Newtown has been the starting point for the opera company's annual festival and for the fortnight before the first performance, Theatr Hafren is busy with last-minute rehearsals. The Opera Festival is held in September.
Disabled access to the theatre is good with the first row at the auditorium generally reserved for wheelchair users.
As well as a theatre, the complex has a gallery exhibiting artwork. Admission is free and it's open from Monday to Saturday 10:00am til 5:30pm. There's also a restaurant on site as well as a bar, which is open until 11.00pm.
The theatre is located just outside the town centre and, unless you've got plenty of energy, it's probably too far to walk from town. If you're taking the car, there's a large car park or you could take a bus or taxi from town.
