Can anyone remember the Tech School in Newtown when it was situated opposite the shops in Garth Owen in wooden huts on the land that is now the Grammar School, I attended there from 1954 until the new Grammar School was built and we moved to our new building opposite Newtown Railway Station next to Pryce Jones.

Can anyone help me in information on a government instructional factory in newtown montgomeryshire between the years 1920-1925. I have been trying to trace my grandfather David Jones from Merthyr.I think this course was set up to retrain men with rural skills, but that is all I know. I wonder if there exists a listing of names who were on the course and their home address. This seems to be the only way I can trace my grandfather.I would appreciate any help

To Giuseppe Vagnarelli I live at Reabrook Farm where Miss Wylie used to live. My father in law inherited the farm when she died and now my father in law and husband run it. If you could tell me anything about Miss Wylie would love to hear from you.

I wonder whether it is at all possible to mention that I have lost a silver Celtic knot work brooch. I lost it when in Newtown Last Tuesday 27 January 2009. I have reported it as lost.It is about one and a half inches across; size of an old half crown or a sink plug.It isn’t worth very much but is precious to me as it was given to me by our son, who died very unexpectedly in the last year.We are offering an appropriate reward to the person who returns it to us. I visited various shops, the market, Sugar and Spice, Boots and the library to mention a few.I shall inquire again at Boots and the Library and the Police station to see if it has been handed in.Thank you so much for your help.

Please can we have our street lights back?. Canal Road have 5 concurrent ones off at the top end and no pavement there at all. The car headlights dazzle pedestrians so they cannot see their footing. Oh yes we can carry a torch but if one forgets and leaves it at home, we could end up like those splattered badgers we see on the side of the roads..

I have been coming to Newtown for many years I have seen it grow and grow. It's a fantastic town the people are friendly and there is plenty of things to see and do round the town and beyond.

I like the co-op in town it is close to the Mcdonalds. Were talking about the police in the community over in Welshpool and it is a fact that offences commited in Welshpool are delt with in Newtown station, where they process you. You have to stay in the night, in the cells in Newtown.

It's a shame that crystals ( the nightclub) does not have a third floor. I think the club needs to bring back more classics like bon jovi "living on a prayer" bryn adams "summer of 69" and stereophonics " thousand trees". good times !!

There is a slightly controversial issue relating to WAG and the provison of broadband access to the communities of Newtown. Some of us still do not have access to broadband. This negatively affects learning opportunities for the local community and certainly adversely affects enterprise. Try and do business in and around Newtown with similar businesses across the border when you still operate on dial up. What better way to strangle enterprise around Newtown than to deny equal operating conditions. Someone made the point succinctly to me recently that even the Islands of the outer hebrides have broadband access. Not Newtown though! £14million pounds has gone into enabling broadband access to all of Wales and still a LOT of areas just outside the town borders of Newtown still operate effectively in the 20th Century not the 21st such as England and Scotland. I have lodged petition with Mick Bates(AM) who is working hard on the issue and the matter is now also with the Minsister of Enterprise. Your voice counts and you can do something to change this!

I am tracing my family history, and many of my great grandparents and their faimilies were born and lived in Aberhafesp in the 1800's and I would like to be able to trace any info on the Rowland family Edward Rowland and May Benbow living in Brymngroes about 1861 and then Lower Leighton Farm Cottage about 1881. If anyone can point me in the right direction to follow up on this, or how I can trace the parish records I would be very grateful, Regards Irene

I hope the planning department see sense and refuse the application to build a bowling club on parkland in Newtown. We must not lose an area that is enjoyed by so many local people and visitors to the town its an area of great beauty and is used for the enjoyment of all. Lets keep Newtown as green as possible and say hands off the park.

One of the main reasons i made the move down south here . If anyone who knows me from the newtown area and is down here please give me a mail .

Just a note to say what a lovely town is Newtown. My husband and I were there in October, visiting Philip Glynn, and thoroughly enjoyed the people and the area.

Plans to build a new Tesco superstore in Newtown on the derelict livestock market site have met with a mixed reaction.
I am all in favour of Tescos coming, I believe it will regenerate the town's economy and create more jobs. The fear of the town's traders is offset by the advantages of a new store opening.
I have analysed the make up of the town's shops and concluded that no more than 3 types are under threat, butchers, newsagents and greengrocers. But I also believe that those that shop in these shops now will continue to do so. There will be a counter reaction by some to n! ot go to Tescos.
So like so many other shoppers in town who support me in this I say come on in Tesco, you are very welcome, let's see the market site used again, bring Newtown into the 21st Century.

Ffynnon Gwrgi is a well situated at the top end of Llanwyddelan Parish near Newtown, Montgomeryshire. It appears to be very old and located in rather an isolated spot, with no near dwellings. Small in size covered by an earth and wood roof. During dry seasons when other sources dried up, several families could be seen carrying water from the well. Some who remember this still talk about the quality of the water being very pure and cold and difficult to drink straight out of the well. In all weather conditions the well was always running over. A few years ago I heard that someone had visited and suggested the locations. I'd be very pleased to have more inforamtion and also regarding the name 'Cwrgi'."

I understand that there used to be a WWII Prisoner of War camp near or around Newtown. I believe it held mainly Italian prisoners but I am having difficulty locating any information regarding any such camps in Wales at all.
My grandparents are Italian and are now residents of Newtown. My Grandfather was a prisoner in the area.
Does any one have any information on this at all?
I would desperately like to learn more about this important part of my family history. My grandfather's ill health prevents me from questioning him too much.

My friends and I have all returned recently from a long weekend in the costa del sol. We are all married with young famalies. while out there we met a stag party on there last nite in torremolinas, what a lovely time we had with them. we all sat around and showed the pictures of our children shared a drink or two and had a genuinely lovely time. None of that sordid stuff you expect on a weekend in the costas, that you read about in the sunday papers. they were such gents that they walked us to the taxi rank and seen us safely back to our hotel. Thank you lads and goodluck to the groom kevin. Enjoy your wedding day, you have a lovely wife to be and gorgeous girls. take care to you all from diane, lisa, kate and lolly. Newtown be proud of your gentlemen

I was appalled to read this report on the BBC website: "Powys Council has barred one of its councillors from debating and voting on planning applications relating to wind farms.
Bob Mills, who represents a Newtown ward, is believed to be the first Powys councillor to be banned in such a way." My point is what would happen in the Welsh Assembly or UK parliament if members were told they couldn't vote for something they had strong views on? We need to know what standpoint our councellors hold or as electors we would never know who to elect!!

Introducing SOPS (Save Our Pipe System) unique to Newtown. Featured on BBC Wales news recently, this group is campaigning to prevent the closure of the cable system which suppies most of Newtown with 10 analogue tv and radio channels. We have been in contact with all the local Powys County Councillors, Mick Bates the MEP as well as Alan Pugh the Minister at the Welsh Assembly.
We would be interested to know how many people reading this support the 'pipe'. The alternative to the pipe is either a roof top aerial providing BBC1 and BBC2 Wales, and S4C or of course Sky. If you wish to support this campaign please e mail at philip.glyn@ukonline.co.uk.
