Newtown Gallery

Last updated: 24 November 2005

Pupils from St Mary's School in Newtown have been creating a protrait of their town using poetry, prose and pictures. The pictures were used as part of the launch of the BBC Wales Bus and this website for Mid Wales in June 2003.

Since the launch at Newtown's Plas Dolerw in June 2003, some of the children put pen to paper once again to compose poems to go with the pictures. Take a look at their work by following our colourful tour.

This is the river that runs through Newtown.
Splashing, swirling, crashing
on the rounded, worndown rocks,
flowing to a slow bubbling shallow brook.

Sometimes we play by the river
Laughing, joking, falling over,
throwing stones across the river.

G. Jones, Newtown
Not all poems must rhyme, a poem can be as simple as just a few lines of something beautiful, look at Shakespeares sonnets, considered some of the best poems of the century.

T.Roberts, Newtown.
A pretty poem, but isn't it time that the teaching of rhyme and rhythm was brought back
