Joe Smith from Abermule is a champion Downhill Mountain Biker and rides for the Ancillotti UK team. He won the Welsh Downhill Mountain Biking Championships in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. In June 2007 Joe told us more about his achievements and ambitions for the future:

"I live in mid Wales, near some of the UK's best mountain biking. I can't remember a time when I didn't ride a bike.

Downhill is what I love most but I also plan to race BMX in the future. I also enjoy cross country, riding my Mini MX bike and building downhill courses. In the winter I love skiing and snowboarding and have skied in Canada, France and Italy which were all fun.

During the summer I enjoy surfing. I'm in year 12 and have just started A level courses in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Business Studies. After studying Art and Graphical products at GCSE I developed an interest in design."

I've been into mountain biking for about a year and I am loving it. I'm gona be joining a club very soon, you're inspiring to me. I'm hoping to try and be a fraction of what you have achieved in your mountain bike career.
