Sculpture Park

Take a look at two new editions to the landscape of the Town Hall Grounds in Newtown which were revealed at a special ceremony on Monday 17 October 2005. The sculptures were created at the 2005 Sculpture Symposium held at Lake Vyrnwy. It's hoped the symposium will move to the park next year.

The ceremony began with speeches by Peter Stanley from Newtown Community Arts and Cllr Gareth Morgan from Powys County Council. Mayor Elizabeth Sheriff then cut the ribbon around the Saint David sculpture.

I think the sculptures are a wonderful attribute to Newtown. They are situated in a pretty, central but incredibly undervalued area of the town. Litter and neglect spoil the area, and the town council must take some responsibility for failing to maximise the potential of this little haven.

I love it so much.
