As well as taking part in the Santa Run, Phillips Glyn from Newtown is also donning his Father Christmas costume for what he calls his 'Beard and Booze' fund-raiser:"I give up alcohol and sweets and grow a beard for Advent. The cause this year is the Air Ambulance. A sharp contrast to the Santa Run with thousands taking part, this is me. To collect money, I am asking sponsorships but I am touring the Newtown pubs in my Santa outfit. That should be interesting. I have been doing Beard and Booze since 1998. It was started initially to raise funds for the catholic church in Newtown. In the past, I have raised about £100 each time so the total is somewhere around £1000 now."
