"Formed in 1951 - Originally known as the Cedewain Gleemen, it presently numbers some 41 choristers drawn from all walks of life, some from Newtown itself but mostly from the surrounding communities.
However four members travel regularly from the Oswestry area - all keen to sing and willing to give up a couple of hours each week to gain enjoyment themselves and also to give pleasure to others.
One of its main aims is to support local charities and throughout its' 56 years existence has willingly done this with so many churches, chapels and charitable organisations benefiting from its services.
They have recently taken part in their 12th appearance at the Royal Albert Hall. During the past year they also took part in Massed Concerts at Cardiff and Rhyl.
In the 70s they enjoyed exchange visits with a choir from Schinveld, Holland and in the eighties similar visits with the High Wycombe Orpheus Male Voice Choir, many still keeping in touch with friends made through these exchanges.
In December 2001 the choir celebrated their 50 years with a Celebration Concert with the Three Welsh Tenors as guest artistes. This concert attracted nearly 800 people and will be remembered by the choristers for a very long time.
In April 2003 they visited France -Twining town of Les Herbiers
The present Conductor is Christine Roberts and the Accompanist - Peg Morris.
