Lesley-Dee Dylan is a great, great, granddaughter of Sir Pryce-Jones and a distant cousin of Robert Owen. Here, she tracks the family trees of the two Newtown pioneers:
Richard Williams, Pennarth Farm, Llandyssul Parish
m. Elizabeth
- Hannah Williams
m. Edward Goodwyn, The Court, Abermule, Llanmerewig Parish
- John Goodwyn, The Pant, Llanllwchaiarn
m. Elizabeth Pryce, Llanllugan Parish
- Mary Anne Goodwyn
& William Jones, Solicitor, Newtown
- William Jones
- Elizabeth Jones
- Sir Pryce Pryce-Jones
- John Charles Jones, emigrated to New Zealand
- Thomas Goodwyn
m. Margaret Pryce, dau of the Llanllwchaiarn Publican
- Elizabeth Goodwyn
m. Thomas Turner, Pennarth Farm, Llandyssul Parish
- Anne Williams
m. Robert Owen, Saddler, Newtown (born in Welshpool)
- Robert Owen, the famous social reformer
- Robert Dale Owen, U.S. Congressman for Indiana
"After William Jones's death, Mary Anne Goodwin and the young Pryce lived with her aunt, Margaret (Pryce) Goodwyn in Newtown. Both Mary Anne and Pryce attended Robert Owen's funeral, and Mary Anne is buried beside Robert Owen. The other two gravestones that have been left in place near the Owen grave are of the Turner cousins.
Two of Sir Pryce's sons-in-law are worth noting:
Colonel Franklin MacAuley Gillespie, South Wales Borderers, was killed by a sniper at Galipoli after a brilliant military career, both in the Great War and in the Boar War.
Edward Powell, born in Welshpool (father was Samuel Powell of Ivy House), took a bankrupt small motor company in Coventry and turned it into a major automobile manufacturer (Humber-Hillman). When Sir Pryce ran for parliament, Edward Powell was the campaign manager for his opponent.
From the time he married Eleanor Pryce-Jones, Edward lived in Llanllwchaiarn, first at Severn Cottage, then he moved to Plas-y-Bryn, which had belonged to Sir Pryce's brother John Charles Jones, after he had rebuilt and enlarged it. He died in London in 1918 of the Spanish Flu, and was returned to Llanllwchaiarn by train for burial. Eleanor continued to live at Plas-y-Bryn until her death in 1944.
Then there are the athletes in the family. Edward and Eleanor's second son, Sydney Pryce Powell, was a competitive golf player, winning such awards as the Burmuda Cup in 1938-39.
Sir Pryce's second son, Ernie Pryce-Jones, was captain of the Newtown soccer team when they won the Welsh Cup (two of his brothers and a Goodwyn cousin were also on the team), and Ernie was also a reknowned cricket player.
Sir Pryce's grandson, Adrian Pryce-Jones, was a competitive figure skater. Figure skating seems to be a feature of the family, as Sir Pryce was known for his skating, and my mother (Edward Powell's granddaughter Helen) is proud of her skating.
Her younger brother, Brian, was an mechanical engineer for Hughes Aircraft, and lead the design team who designed the landing gear for the Surveyor I unmanned moon landing vessel. Brian travelled from his home in Los Angeles to Europe each winter for skiing, being one of the early "Free-Style"skiers, then called "Hot Dogging." He died in a plane crash in the mountains near Los Angeles in 1966.
My nephew Brady James-Mitchell is continuing the athletic tradition, having left Toronto for Europe to continue his Equestrian career.
Alan Pryce-Jones (Adrian's older brother) was literary editor of The Times for many years, until he moved to the United States, where he took exactly the same position on the New York Times."

An interesting article but am I misreading it? If Elizabeth Goodwyn married Thomas Turner how could they produce a daughter surnamed Williams ie Anne Williams?

I believe that I am connected to Sir Pryce Pryce-Jones. His wife Eleanor Rowley Morris was I belive the daughter of Edward Rowley born 1792 in Kerry(Mont) and Eleanor Jones born in Daroan in 1804. Eleanor's parents were Richard Jones born in 1746 at Darowan and Mary Evans born at Carno.Richard and Mary were my 5 times great grandparents on my mother's side. When my mother Anita died in 1998 I inherited a 20 page document outlining my Jones family which lived at a place caled Esgair Evan which is near Darowan and Llanbrynmair. I have been researching it ever since and now have a large number of people on it.I would like to get in touch with anyone connected to the Pryce Jones family

Some time back i was in contact with Lesley-Dee Dylan via e-mail, but when I tried to contact her recently, said address was unexisting. She has probably changed e-mail address, and I would appreciate it if you could give me information as to how to get in touch with her.
My e-mail address is rexpj40@hotmail.com
Many thanks.
