It would be interesting to kno how old people are that make Crystals sound like "Cream"! When your under age and you get into Crystals, you feel its the best thing since sliced bread and it will only take time for these youngsters to move away from Newtown to realise what a good club is.

I think Newtown is great for nightlife, I especially love Crystals which plays a great mixture of music maybe a few more clubs to vary peoples music taste plus crystals can get very crowded at times. Also a variety of DJs will make crystals more enjoyable for some!

Anyone who thinks Newtown is a decent place is obviously deluded. Having had the misfortune to grow up there, I tend to avoid the place as much as possible. I advise anyone reading this to do likewise. As you can tell from most posts on here, the only way to derive any enjoyment is to get out of your face. Hence the drug culture and scum that pulls the town down. People seem to think that because the place is so mind-numbingly boring that it's a good place to raise children, how wrong they are. When your kids have nothing to do, is it any wonder they start smoking weed, and almost inevitably end up on harder drugs? IF you want children to thrive then they need varied and intelligent people with which to interact. You'll find neither in this cesspit...

Pick a hundred town blogs, anywhere you like, Macclesfield, Leighton Buzzard, Chipping Sodbury, Luton.. and the split of opinion will be proportioned exactly the same. Give or take 5% or so, 33.3% will love the place, 33.3% can take it or leave it, 33.3% will hate the joint. Newtown is no exception, it fits that demograph perfectly. I've enjoyed reading all your posts, even the most derogatory ones. I just hope anyone thinking of coming here for whatever reason, reads the entire groundswell of opinion, sees it for themselves and makes up their own mind. I've made up my own mind have no regrets about relocating here in 2000 from the valleys (and there I open another powder keg of opinion!) I fully appreciate the town's shortcomings in terms of entertainment and amenities, but for raising a family, I doubt there is a better region in the UK. It all fits in terms of the rural environment, the unspoilt countryside, the school, the people. But this is an entertainment blog of course and to that I can only say the best times and best memories centre around the company you keep and not the surroundings or the number of BPM in the DJ's set. OK, we haven't got The Ministry of Sound or the Hacienda but we've got Crystals and the Monty Club!

Newtown has gone from bad to worse... Top on our avoid list now.Crystals plays the same cheese every weekend - Stand still in there long enough and you'll stick to the floor...Majority of places have the attitude of make as much money as possible, regardless of actually putting a good night on.Best bet is to carry on up the road, Barcode in Llani do regular proper Dj nights using local talent.. Can't go wrong Shrewsbury...or Oswestry either.

Ahh Newtown - such a god foresaken hole. There are only 2 ways out of Newtown for most people, and that is either in a coffin or in a police car. I, like a few others, found the 3rd option which is to buy a one way train ticket... Nothing ever changes there - I bet I could go back in 10 years time...Seriously, if you are reading this and are also one of the people that think Newtown is amazing, take a long hard look and get out of there....it's a very big world with lots of experiences, different people to be met and things to discover - that town will only bring you down.

Yeah its a shame to see Newtown being so bad for good nights, especially when no clubs are serious to put good name dj's up to play. For instance crytals seem to have people getting payd to give shout outs and press the play button. Maybe they should let dj's like myself play, it brings dj's down who have alot of talent to play.

It seems Newtown is going up in the world, its actually got a website. Well considering I used to live in town 4 16 years i dont miss the nitelife whatsoever. Even tho its good to go back once in a blue moon and experience the nite life once again but thats all I would ever do. The nitelife was/is playin the same music, over and over seeing the same faces all the time (not that some of the faces weren't that bad 2 look at)same ppl kickin off making themselves look like idiots the clubs are crap, its just purely boring. Living in Cov now and the nitelife here is 100 times better, we're gettin new clubs built as we speak the clubs weve got have different things going on on different nites.

Poor in most places. Try Waggon and Horses(this is the correct spelling btw). They know how to keep beer and they serve excellent food in restaurant. Exchange not too bad. Elephant and Castle OK. Avoid Sportsman - expensive and lots of underage kids.

Newtown is brill! Yes crystals is a bit of a hole but it has a mixture of the new music an the old classics its great if youre in the mood for a dance. Castle, Angel and Exchange are the best pubs. They have a dancefloor and pool table etc. Good drinks which aren't that expensive contrary to what lots ppl on here been sayin. Also i've been out in plenty of other places, Oxford mainly and although its a great night out there is still something nice about Newtown. Always see someone you know the ppl are friendly and the pubs are nice plus they all close together- bonus.

If it's trendy, melodic wine bars full of Hip and 'beautiful people' you're after, then you better carry on up the A483 passed Oswestry and Wrexham and take the M56 to Manchester as Newtown is definitely not the place for you. Yes, like most of the area's market towns, it may have not moved forward from the 'pub to wine-bar' and still serves real beer in real pint glasses with a pack of scratchings and a pickled egg, but make no mistake you know exactly where you are with the Mid-Wales town. The people are friendly and mostly welcoming, and the place has an atmosphere all of its own - and you don't have to be wearing Armani or Gucci to get a conversation with a women, a bottle of WKD will usually suffice.

Same ol' same ol' every weekend in Newtown, so at least when you're getting ready for a night out you know exactly what's in store. I don't think all the pubs are like youth clubs, as said below; a lot of people here work in the week just to go out in town and blow all their money getting bladdered.. and that's the over 25s. Nightlife here doesn't even come close to Bristol, where I came from, but the cost is the same. Still, like I said you know what you're getting.

Newtown has the worst nightlife I have ever experienced. The only way a night out in Newtown becomes tolerable is if you are really drunk and with good friends. The prices to get into Crystals are a joke and why at the end of an evening do I have to listen to the village people singing YMCA? What is with that? The Lion is banging! Start your nite there and youll be in for a treat! Then groove down to the Angel for a pint of Bud, the only place to av it in pint size doses! Then to the buck, for a Jim Beam!! They should sell that everywhere like in Aber, by far the best value Bourbon Whiskey! The edge is good but if you're heading for Crystals or X-cells, go there before 1030 to get in free, and check out the diffent music on 3 different floors! Totally class! Exchange is good... Then Crystals, up on the balcony watch the drunks dance the night away! then get down n dance!

i just want to add that life in Newtown is better than some places i know, but i still get bullied in school. it's not fair, and i think as sed below, all people should be accepted for who they are. one of these days someone will be respected for being themselves and not someone they've had to be because of peer presure. stick at it, those who are bullied, keep ur chins up!

Start and finish your night in the exchange folks! Quiet chat until nine when they put the music on and then once you've treked around town on the beer crawl back in to the x-cells were they now open til late.. and you don't pay to get in like crystals and the edge... More pennier for the the beer!

Having moved from Newtown to Cardiff, I have great memories of the place. Its good to go back every now and then and catch up with old mates. Newtown folk tend to drink too much but know how to have a good time and make you feel welcome. Cannot remember the name of last pub I visited but it used to be a pool bar by Argos. Great night, Great music.

Newtown is a great place to go out once in a while. There are a great variety of pubs, from the lion to the angel the sportsman to the castle, to the newly revamped elephant and castle and the exchange to meet your mates. Finish off at crystals or the edge, wherever you are you are sure to have a good time.

night life used to be great in newtown. i ve lived here all my life and seen many changes i can tell you.most of the pubs in newtown are just like youth clubs at the weekends no more quiet drinks for us older generation.do we really need the loud music in the pubs?you cant hear yourself think,and at the end of the night the inevitable trouble happens,oo many young ones who cant handle their drink.

If your looking for something different then don't bother. If your looking for a handful of mediocre pubs playing the same music every week then your in luck. Crystals used to be superb, but that was nearly 10 years ago!...I used to spend most of my time in the Castle pub, which had the most varied music though I've no idea what its like now...

The Bear and The Exchange are a good laugh but the beer’s good everywhere! The great thing is that you know everyone when you’re out and that most places are open late on a weekend. Most pubs have a disco so you don’t always have to spend your money on getting into a club.

'The Girls', Newtown
Fridays are definitely the best nights out in Newtown but Saturdays and Sundays are pretty good, too. Our favourite pub's The Castle Vaults but there are lots of other good pubs as well. There's always a fun atmosphere.
