"The CAFE (Children, Agriculture, Food and Education) Project has been working with schools in the Newtown area since 2005 with the aim of 'reconnecting children to food, farming and the environment'.
With assistance from the CAFE Project, Maesyrhandir CP School, Penygloddfa CP School, Ladywell Green Infants School, Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd, Aberhafesp CP School and Dolfor CP School have all enjoyed farm visits, talks and demonstrations organized by the CAFE Project.
Penygloddfa and Dolfor CP Schools have set up gardens to grow their own vegetables. Caersws and Carno primary schools have pioneered winter and spring farm visits - usually considered too cold or wet for taking infant and junior children for outdoor visits.

Carno primary school was assisted to form a partnership with a neighbouring farm, opening a wealth of new experiences for pupils within walking distance of the school gate.
CAFE marked British Science & Engineering week with a 'Science on the Farm' event.Newtown schools were invited to Llwynderw Farm, Old Hall to discover science through practical observation and data collection.
School farmers' markets continue to grow. Six schools have held markets - Aberhafesp near Newtown has now held sixteen, Montgomery has had two and four more schools are keen to start including Dolfor.

To help with the extra work, Sioned Pugh has been appointed as the first 'School Farmers' Market Coordinator' and there are plans for two part-time project officers to extend the project to Brecknock and Radnorshire in Powys.
