More about this location...

"A slate tomb chest which is not very showy - despite being born and dying in the town. Owen was not a church goer and as his life and fame lay elsewhere in Scotland and North America it took some time for the town to realise his signifcance. However, the railings which were added later and donated by the Co-operatative movement (the movement was just one of Owen's inspired ideas) at a cost of £500 are a beautiful art noveau design by Alfred Toft. The sculptor Toft was also responsible for another beautiful monument in Wales, the South African War Memorial that terminates Cardiff's King Edward VII Avenue."
