New Quay Lifeboat
Last updated: 17 August 2006
Like many a seaside town, New Quay has a long and proud lifeboat tradition. Albert Moller is the RNLI operations manager at New Quay and he's contributed the following information about the station's history. The pictures were taken by Tony Denton a lifeboat enthusiast unless otherwise stated. The archive photos are published courtesy of the RNLI archive in Poole.

The Mersey Class Lifeboat was designed and developed by RNLI staff for stations where variable tides demand the lifeboat be launched into the sea from a carriage. There are 22 such stations around the coast and New Quay is one of them. The Mersey has a speed of over 17 knots, double the speed of the Oakley and Rother class lifeboats she replaced durinq the late 1980's and early 1990's.
