New Quay Lifeboat
Last updated: 17 August 2006
Like many a seaside town, New Quay has a long and proud lifeboat tradition. Albert Moller is the RNLI operations manager at New Quay and he's contributed the following information about the station's history. The pictures were taken by Tony Denton a lifeboat enthusiast unless otherwise stated. The archive photos are published courtesy of the RNLI archive in Poole.

The Picture above shows the Naming and Dedication Ceremony for 'Amy Lea' on 7th May 2004. The Hon. Mrs Audrey Lawson Johnston named the lifeboat after her late mother, Amy Lea Pearl. Both were survivors from the sinking of the Lusitania on 7th May 1915, when Mrs Lawson Johnston was only three months old. The ceremony took place at New Quay on the 89th anniversary of the disaster not long after she had celebrated her 89th birthday.
