New Quay Cei Dev

Cei Dev development organisation

Cei Dev is a registered charity based in New Quay formed to help regenerate the town and put community ideas into practice. Find out more about the venture in this Q & A with Cei Dev Project Manager Tim Harrison.


What is Cei Dev?

Cei Dev Ltd is a Registered Charity and is sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government.

When was it set up?

Cei Dev Ltd was formed in 1999.

How and why was it started?

The organisation was started by local resident Gill Hopley, who brought community members together having recognised the need for regeneration and growth instead of the decline that New Quay has suffered since the latter half of the twentieth century.

Who is involved?

A group of volunteer Directors lead day to day business but the ideas and initiatives come directly from the community.

What are the aims of the organisation?

Cei Dev aims to make a difference in the communities that it represents. Cei Dev works tirelessly to find sufficient funds to complete Projects for the community.

What have been the highlights for Cei Dev so far?

Highlights so far include the development of Cardigan Bay Watersports and the New Quay and all Ceredigion Dylan Thomas Trail and the Community Newsletter.

What are the future plans for Cei Dev?

This year we have many exciting plans that include the New Quay Dolphin Sticker, The New Quay and District charity Angling Match and a central band stand on the village green.

The current Board is: - Anglea Blakemore - Chair of the Board, Roger Couch, Jennifer Davies, Bunny Evans, Ed Wilson and Gill Hopley - vice chair.

Cei Dev Ltd has prepared its 2005/06 accounts. These are available for public viewing at Paragon House, New Quay. Please contact Liz Harvey on 01545 561460.

Menter Cei Newydd has been very active during the summer of 2006 with projects organised by our new team of employees Tim, Liz and Hannah. Distribution of New Quay car stickers as a start to engaging the business community in joint marketing initiatives and Hannah and her team provided a varied programme of activities for the NQ1 Youth Club.

The arrival of the Telecabana IT mobile training centre caused a stir, but was not well attended; anyone wishing to have computer training during the winter should contact the office.

The official opening of the Cardigan Bay Watersports Centre took place, which under the management of Steve Wood and Ceri Knapgate has had another successful season. The next major event will be the Open Sea Angling Match on Sunday 1 October

Later in the year Menter Cei Newydd will present it's draft three year plan at a public meeting.
