Boat Place Opening

A new education and resource centre for boat users was opened on New Quay Harbour on 9 May 2006. The aim of the Boat Place is to raise awareness about Cardigan Bay's Special Area of Conservation and the code of conduct for boat users.

Cliff Davies took over as Treasurer of the Cardiganshire Coastal Protection Society in 1976. However, he says, there weren't any meetings as most of the members had passed on.

Cliff: "We'd been looking for something to do with the money which had been accruing interest ever since I took over as treasurer. We found out about the Boat Place when my wife attended a talk about the project at the WI. We thought the project was perfect for the aims of the original group. I would love it if the other members were alive to see that this has finally happened."

I contributed to the excellent new resource centre in the capacity of Mural painter. The painting, now installed at the centre illustrates a childrens story that plays there and can be seen on line at: www.livingwallsmurals.co.uk

Many thanks for the pics and infomation on the new boat shed. I remember as a boy in the mid 40's watching the lifeboat go roaring down the steep ramp from the shed to attend some accident at sea. Please can you provide a picture of the Lifeboat house.?.. Is it still the same?
