Marine Wildlife Sightings 2009

Dolphin

Last updated: 29 October 2009

During the summer of 2009, staff at the Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre based in New Quay are sending in regular reports of marine wildlife sightings in Cardigan Bay from the survey vessel Sulaire. In their fourteenth report, Sam Ferdman records some of the sealife spotted between 19 and 25 October 2009.

  • More about Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre...

  • "This past week, no boat trips were run. That means that everything we saw was confined to the area directly in front of the pier.

This was a confusing week, with dolphins appearing out of nowhere, jumping around for a bit, and disappearing.

But it sure was entertaining. They were jumping metres out of the water, tail slapping, and just generally having fun.

A lot of seals popped up too. They would just poke their heads out for a breather.

On an extremely sad note, this is our final weekly sightings update for the year 2009. If this was a real letter, like on paper, there would be tear stains all over it. Instead, I had to settle for short-circuiting not one, but two keyboards, in the process of writing this final instalment."

Totals for the weeks:165 Bottlenose Dolphins, 14 Atlantic Grey Seals, 0 Harbour Porpoise.
