God Bless the Cambrian News!

Michael Jones with his family

Last updated: 24 November 2005

Michael Jones from Aberystwyth writes about how he was reunited with his son - thanks to his local weekly newspaper, the Cambrian News.

"The mystery of the advert placed in the Cambrian News: 'Does anyone know the whereabouts of J. Michael Jones (my date of birth), who knew a Annette Walsh in 1972 please contact telephone number'.

I was just out of hospital after having a knee replacement, and was not able to get the Cambrian News that week (I was on the front page the previous week, after having the operation cancelled twice, headline '3rd time Lucky for Michael').

My Aunty Ina from Cydweli 'phoned to say about the advert - she knew it was me!!!

I 'phoned the number, and it was my long lost son Michael. He was named after me and wanted to make contact with his biological father. He had been told by his "Dad" when he was 16 that he was not his real father.

His mother never volunteered any information about me until she realised that they were serious about the search - Zoe Michael's wife even phoned the "Trisha show" on ITV.

I found that I had two grandchildren - Megan and Cameron - and Michael found that he had eight brothers and sisters. We had a photo session of all nine together when they came down to Aberystwyth for a long weekend.

We all got on famously, keep in touch regularly and I don't know if it's a good thing or not, but his wife Zoe says we are so alike in things we do."

Written by Michael Jones from Aberystwyth who's Secretary of the Aberystwyth and North Ceredigion Residents Association.

Hello Micheal. I think I know you from the late 40's early 50's. Did you go to North road Primary and then on to Ardwyn. Did we call you "Jacko." Was football your passion?Loved your story.
