BBC Introducing at Aber

Bethan Elfyn

Last updated: 13 October 2009

BBC Introducing is hosting a free gig at Aberystwyth University's students unions on Tuesday 20 October featuring Slow Club, Race Horses, Who Saw Who, DJ Matt Webber of Don't Die Just and Bethan Elfyn. The gig will be broadcast on BBC Radio Wales the following night from midnight. Bethan Elfyn told us more about the event:

  • BBC Introducing in Wales...

  • "Slow Club is made up of Charles Watson (vocals, guitar) and Rebecca Taylor (vocals, guitar, percussion). The band has supported other Sheffield contemporaries such as Tiny Dancers as well as Omaha based band and labelmates Tilly and the Wall, who share the band's alternative, folk orientated sound.

The band is notable for their use of unusual objects as percussion instruments such as glass bottles and even a chair.

Slow Club released two 7" singles in 2007, Slow Club and Me and You, both on Moshi Moshi records. On 1 September 2008 Slow Club released their first EP entitled Let's Fall Back in Love, also on Moshi Moshi Records.

Race Horses are a 4-piece consisiting of Meilyr Jones, Alun Gaffey, Dylan Hughes, and Gwion Llewelyn. They have been compared to being a cross between The Small Faces and the League of Gentlemen.

Who Saw Who were formed in late 2008. After the end of their last band, The Winchester 4, Cynrig, Dyfrig and Sam looked to form a band which would evolve from what they had accomplished previously incorporating all the elements of music which they enjoyed playing adding layered vocals and distinct danceable rhythms.

Who Saw Who have subsequently developed a sound that blends rock with jagged indie sound, with lyrics ranging from the personal to the political."
