Green Man Festival

Green Man's main stage

Last updated: 09 August 2007

The Green Man Festival is held in Glanusk Park in the Brecon Beacons. In August 2007 Alison Millar told us about the plans for the festival in 2007:

  • Check out our 2006 Green Man photos...

  • "The Green Man Festival returns for its 5th year in 2007, and tickets for the event are already on sale. Ticket prices will be the same as last year (£98 adult, free to under 12s).

The venue will also be the same, the gloriously green Glanusk Park in the Brecon Beacons, Wales and the campsite will open on 16th August, with the festival running from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 August.

There will be music late on into the night with more campfire ceilidhs and an increased capacity as the site expands into the parkland areas, with a larger second stage and DJ tent.

In addition, there will be a Children's area, Literature area, Cinema, Science workshops, Greeen Field and much more...

Highlights for the Friday include Euros Childs and Findlay Brown on the main stage, King Creosote and Ellis Island Sound on the folkey dokey stage, and Alela Diane and Arborea on the green man cafe stage.

Highlights for the Saturday include Robert Plant and The Strange Sensation and Lisa Knapp on the main stage, James Yorkstone and Moon Music Orchestra on the folkey dokey stage, and John Power and Alun Tan Lan on the green man cafe stage.

Highlights for the final day, Sunday, include Gruff Rhys and Soft Hearted Scientists on the main stage, Seasick Steve and 9 Bach on the folkey dokey stage, and Cate Le Bon and Threatmantics on the green man cafe stage.

Aside from the music, there is a children's tent with yoga, arts and crafts, drum workshops, story telling and a comedy club.

Literature is represented by talks from and with authors like Rachel Trezise, Charlotte Greig and Vashti Bunyan.

The cinema tent will be showing folk and psychedelic films as well as documentaries like 'Love Story' following the band Love from the 1960s, and The Future Is Not Written on Joe Strummer.

There is also a new Green Field this year with a solar powered milk float stage for speakers and performances and an eco fair ground, as well as a Ty Mawr sustainable building project.

An unusual act this year is brought from a crack team of physics buskers who will be performing tricks that are crowd pleasing and help illustrate different areas of physics. These including making balloon kebabs, launching Alka Seltzer rockets or turning pints of water upside down over a friend's head without drenching them!

Finally, we have the Rumpus Room where D.J.s like Cherrystones, Guto and Chris Coco will be dropping by to play their favourite records with the party carrying on into the wee, small hours.

Our first festival - absolutely incredible despite the rain & mud. Robert Plant was by far away the highlight (but he should be after 40 years at the top!). Connan & the Mocasins & Tunng were NEARLY as good(ish).

Torrential rain turned the festival into a mud bath and there were simply too many people to get up close and person to acts that depend on intimacy to connect.
