"Backbeating started three years ago as a small collective that organises Reggae events in Aberystwyth.
During this time Backbeating managed to build a small complete sound system and establish a weekly Reggae event in the Angel, Aberystwyth along with many other additional music events in different venues in the area.
Backbeating Sounds is responsible for event organising & management, promotions and design. We make an effort to co-operate with other artists and organisations in mid-Wales, map the music life of the area and organise events that blend world, folk and electronic music.
We offer our services to local clubs/charities and assist with any projects in the area that may involve Music.
Our main regular projects at the moment are: the Ska, Reggae & Dub project (weekly) and the Gypsy, Klezmer & Balkan Beats (monthly).
The Ska, Reggae & Dub project is taking place every Thursday (10pm-4am) at the Angel (Aberystwyth). This is a night with Reggae beats from around the world. It comprises the Old and the New with a selection of vinyl and cd tunes...relaxing atmosphere with uplifting rhythms vs. conscious melodies and dance.
The Gypsy, Klezmer & Balkan Beats takes place in different venues in Aberystwyth. (so far Yoko's Club, the Angel & the Rugby Club) on a monthly basis.
This event involves live performances from guest artists and bands that play Gypsy, E. European, Balkan & Flamenco music.
In addition a team of DJs fills up the night with sounds and beats from the past and present of the gypsy music; a fusion of strings, horns and contemporary electronic beats leading to a broad dancehall experience.
We are currently looking for artists, bands & DJs who are interested in getting involved in any of the two projects.
Our intention is to increase the frequency of our events, expand to other areas of mid-Wales and offer a variety of sounds to the public.
We welcome all artists, bands and relevant organizations to express their interest and make suggestions. For more information about the Backbeating projects and upcoming events please visit our website which has a link on the right hand side of this page.
