I moved to Machynlleth five years ago following many holidays spent here. My Father was originally from Mid Wales.Since I moved here I have felt isolated and unwelcome. Despite every effort to mix and fit in with the community I go from week to week never speaking to another human being. The local people say a friendly good morning but other than that I have been forced to become a total miserable loner.I have finally given up trying to fit in and am planning to move back to where I came from as I cannot stand the isolation I feel in this town anymore.Machynlleth seems to have two social groups, the locals, who have always lived here and have a very strong bond, and the incomers who are usually Southerners who think of nothing but themselves, and appear to think they are superior to the locals!I being Welsh, but from a different part of Wales don't fit in with either of these groups so am not welcome here.I cannot wait, and now just spend my days longing for the day I drive out of this horrid hostile town, and one thing is for sure, I never want to set foot in it again.I have lived in many parts of Wales all my life, but never have I lived in such an unfriendly town.

I was wondering whether anyone knows about a John David Davies or 'Basham' who played for Machynlleth football team in the 1920's-30's. I would like to know whether anyone knew his family/who his parents/siblings were. I believe he is my great-grandad.

I loved going to Machnylleth, especially the Quarry Cafe, on my way to uni at Aberystwyth. There was a fabulous clothes/ ethnic goods shop on the corner near the clock tower. Does anyone know if it's still there?

I have never been to Mach but somehow I feel that I must lived there in another life. I have it constantly in my mind, the way of life, the people, the locality. I would love to be able to share it "real time" but I feel I have left it too late. Oh Mach how I love you from afar!

I have recently moved to the area and totally love it. However, I'm shocked to see on the surface how "unhorsey" it is and have had real trouble in finding details of decent equestrian services, farrier, hay & straw merchants, equine dentists, etc. I am therefore compiling a website where people who move to the area, or who are already here, can instantly find out who's who in the equestrian field. If anyone wishes to have their details added whether you are a vet, trainer, feed merchant, tack supplier, etc., or if you have an event you wish to publicise or even just want someone to hack out with, please let me know and I'd be happy to add your details (all for free!). Come on, let's make Mach more horse friendly!

Being born in Corris moved to Machynlleth at a young age. Settled down got married to my wife Glenda, lived in Vane Hall Place with Glenda, Tansy, Sally. Not the the same place it was 10 years ago lot of shops now closed if you require a good food shop you need to go to Aberystwyth, Newtown or further afield. Nice quiet place to live stunning scenery, locals are friendly and very helpful. Owain Glyndwr parliament houses where the first parliament in Wales was held sould be recognised more and put to more use on the history of the town.

We visited beautiful Machynlleth in October (07)and spent the day with John Per Davies and his wife Mairlynne. John and I had attended St Luke's College in Exeter together in the 1950's and had gone into careers as PE teachers. John had come to Mach straight from College- loved it so much that he's never left and I could see why. The town is packed with interest and the people are very friendly. The surrounding countryside can't be excelled for beauty. It was a day I'll never forget.

I laughed at Annie Breese's comment but Mach must be like anywhere else I have ever been 'you have to travel to get there' though I do like visiting Machynlleth very much been doing so for 37 years. Will be there in the summer for Megans 70th birthday.

Pity people have to go away or be from away to appreciate what they have here. I have lived here 4 years and remember queueing for an hour to park in Chester to shop at the "lovely" shops. Paying £10 for the day's parking, buying an outfit I knew I would see over and over again on others from the big chain stores. Then hurrying to be away by mid afternoon because the young men, drunk and rowdy and the beggers who approached me hassling for cash spoilt my day. The last stabbing in Chester and the hour long queue on top of my journey to work finished me off and I had lived there all my life! If only I could get work down here I would be completely happy. If you need more to do shout out and make it happen, contact people, get a big voice but beware, make sure the things you want to do don't start more problems.

Born at Churchstoke, Montgomeryshire, we spent the happiest year of our lives at Ceinws, just outside Mach. It is a delightful town, full of genuine, happy people, the one place in this world you can count on always being welcome. We are old now and many of our friends have passed on but some still remain. Here's to Stan and Helen Roberts of Cae Crwn and all the other wonderful people of Mach.

My roots on my paternal grandfather's side go back to Mach - some day I want to come find the gravestones of my ancestors who are buried there. My Welsh roots are strong, as my paternal grandmother was a Lloyd. I love the descriptions of the town - small, friendly - I even like the idea of having nothing to do! That's comical - there is always something to do, everywhere. :)

All this may be fine and dandy, but you try living on the Bryn-Y-Gog estate, or as I like to call it 'Bryn-Y-Ghetto' then see if you find it so wonderful...Apart from that Machynlleth is a very pleasant town, all my friends are here and for that I am pleased to be here, but as for anything else, everything new the town gets is either vandalized or rubbished...Maybe when this problem is sorted out, Machynlleth can go back to being the clean, pleasant town it once was.

I've lived in Machynlleth all my life (13 years in total) and I've never seen a better veiw anywere else. I'm lucky enough to live close to all the mountins. I take my dog for a walk as often as I can. Nothing ever bad happens here. Machynlleth is a quiet town but I would recomend it for people with kids or people who just want to get away from city life. Primary Schools and Secondary are great here. I will probaly move when I go to college but I will always come back to see the view or just to get away. Mach is truly a magnificent place to live.

I like machynlleth because all my friends and family live there and even though it is a small town, there is plenty to do. But there is one thing - we have a skate park but there is no ramps in it. We would love ramps! In Bro Ddyfi leasure centre, we would love to have a wave pool and more and bigger water slides there.

I have just moved here but it's a decent enough place, full of nice people. Walk up a mountain and look at the stunning scenery and the lowflying planes or sit in a pub and have a few pints. The leisure centre has loads to do, from swimming to a fitness suite. Mach is the best place in Wales.

A bloke on a bicycle came towards me with a huge Bald Eagle perched on his shoulder, claws gripping tight, wings spread - an awesome sight, I nearly crashed the car!

It is such a long time since I was there, I now confuse it with Dolgellau, they're both towns with grey stone buildings, a river, mountains, spectacular surroundings. People who can get there are privileged.

My opinion may not count, because I have never spent more than two weeks at a time in Machynlleth. However, if you add up all of the time that I have spent in the area, in my whole life so far, it comes to ten months, so I might be qualified for this section.
I think that Machynlleth is a great town, due to it's proximity to both the mountains and river estuary. I'm a TV producer for BBCi Spark on Kingston Interactive Television, in Hull, and I plan to get some great footage for a new documentary on the local tourism industry when I come by in a week's time.
I got some great photos of Dylife Gorge last year, and I hope to again. Mach and the local area are great.
