Lantern Procession 2006
Last updated: 23 October 2006
A lantern procession of "larger-than-life" characters through the streets of Machynlleth on 28 October followed by a spectacular fireworks show in the town's Plas was enjoyed by 1800 people.

Teresa Walters of local community regeneration group Eco Dyfi describes the festivities:
"The theme for the procession this year was film, to signal the coming together of the Pink Snowball Film Festival and the Lantern Procession, with a whole week of activities, under one banner - Gŵyl Golau Dyfi Light Fest.
The procession, led by Production Manager Jane Lloyd Francis of Equilibre, featured 120 cartoon character lanterns and puppets made by local artists at workshops in the Plas, at the After School Club holiday sessions and at the Centre For Alternative Techology, plus "film stars", "superheroes", poi twirlers and musicians.
Highlights of the procession included a giant Buzz Lightyear, suspended above the procession, plus a very animated 9-person dragon made by children at Machynlleth Primary School with leadership and choreography from Imogen Pettit.
The workshops and activities, run by a team of local artists and volunteers throughout the week, were funded by the Communities First Trust Fund and local businesses, with small contributions from workshop participants.
The fireworks were funded through entrance fees to the Plas and the organisers are very pleased to report that £2800 was taken on the gate - just enough to pay for the fireworks and other expenses.
Fortunately, Dai Disco and lighting specialist Graeme Hurley gave their time to the community for no charge, as did the 50 volunteer marshals, gate staff and technical staff, who together shared responsibility for the public.
