LLanwrtyd Wells is a very small town. It is really nice to live there because of its views and also the people who live there... I lived in llanwrtyd for a year as an exchange student and I soon loved it. I also had the wonderful chance to work as a waiter at the Drover´s restaurant. It was a good experience.I didn´t even wanna come back so Spain. I miss it and I recommend the visit to everyone!!

Geoffrey Williams, Dinefwr Ramblers
Whilst walking north of Llanwrtyd Wells the Dinefwr Ramblers came across a stone on the Public Right of way next to a field gate .The stone was inscribed as follows"E.O.D.D. 1873 No3 " and was at Grid Reference SN 88654959 on the PROW from the ruined farm at Bwlchtuathre to Pistillgwyn The stone is approximately 18 inches to two feet high and 18 inches wide and the inscription is in good condition for a stone that (according to the date on it ) has been there for 135 years. The does not appear (from the OS Explorer map )to be any Parish/community council boundary near the ston! e Can you help as all the party of 21 walkers were intrigued by this ?

I first visited Llanwrtyd when I was 13 (43 years ago)and relatives moved there and took me down for a holiday. I've had numerous holidays down there and actually lived there for a few months a long time ago. Unfortunately my relatives are now deceased and the last time I visited was a funeral. I was very sad when I had to return home as I felt it may have been the last time I visited and the little town has so many happy memories for me.

I first visited Llanwrtyd in the 80's with my family, and we stayed in the Victoria Wells Lodges. We had a lovely time, walking, swimming in the pool and feeding the donkeys that roamed around the grounds. I have tried finding the resort, but think it must have changed its name. A lovely place and fondly remembered.

It is a very nice small town to live in. We have both been living here for 10 years and will never get bored of the place. The sites are amazing and the people are all friendly. We both live with our family and wish to stay in Llanwrtyd for as long as we can.

I used to live in Llanwrtyd 3 years ago. My name is Pedro, from Spain. Its a really nice small town. I think is a good place to spend a holiday, but what it needs is help from the government in order to support the tourism, because there are many things to do, like trekking, horse riding, mountain biking and many other nature´s related activities...and a small but great skatepark, hehe. And what can I tell about the locals? so nice people. For Charles Brancis, I have worked in the Abernant Lake Hotel. The last news I heard, they wanted to sell the hotel to another company, but this was a long time ago. I had a very good time there and I really miss it.

Does anyone know if the Abernant Lake Hotel is still trading? I have spent ages trying to contact them but without success ('phones not answered, e-mails not responded to, etc)

Im researching into the New Inn which my uncle used to run 60's till the 70's. Interested in any photos and history of The New Inn. Stayed there for a few weeks when I was a child, brilliant memories. Sadly Gordan passed away three year ago.

We like the countryside, it’s really small and the people in the shops are friendly. It’s not as busy as the towns and you don’t have to wait five hours to cross the road! We have been coming here ever since we were small. It's still fun even if it rains!

I’m from Liverpool and work down here as a chef, three weeks on and one week off. The people down here are warm and friendly and the local produce is fantastic. You can’t get such good fresh local produce in Liverpool, it’s a wonderful place to be.

Danielle Watkins, Irfon Valley butcher shop
I’ve been butchering for 13 months and love it, all the meat is local and fully traceable. We took the shop over in January and it’s a nice friendly village ... a right laugh which has a load of events that brings in visitors, but its not very good for young people - you’ve got to travel and rely on public transport to go swimming say or for a night out in Builth. The local show dances are a good laugh and there are plenty of good places to eat, like Bassets and the Neuadd which are good value for money.

Hilary Davies, secretary of Llanwrtyd Wells Show
I first came to Llanwrtyd pony trekking in 1964. We used to come down here from the Wirral, a gang of us girls on the trains. We’d come every year, it was such a cheap holiday, safe and we had such a laugh. I married a local farmer in 1974, in fact a lot of us girls married local boys – we had to bring in new blood!

Peter Cook from Llanwrtyd
Llanwrtyd the land that used to be... Llanwrtyd has suffered since the advent of cheap flights abroad, as that has had a direct effect on the pony trekking industry here. It used to feel like a lawless wild west town here back in the 60s but it’s now the land of weekend breaks. There are a lot of things going on in Llanwrtyd at the Bromsgrove and Victoria Halls. There’s a lot of past here but what Llanwrtyd needs is a future not a past...

Mike Jones from Llanwrtyd Wells
It’s too quiet - not all the events appeal to everyone, although I like walking. I don’t drive so I have to rely on the train or the post bus which can be awkward. If they shut the Mid Wales line, we would be totally isolated. We could do with more pub entertainment and discos.

There aren’t enough jobs for the youngsters, the school numbers are decreasing and you get a lot of people retiring here. The nearest maternity hospital is 50 miles away – you either have to go to Carmarthen, Neville Hall or Merthyr, and if you want good shopping you have to go to Swansea or Hereford.

Hentria Dyer, Llanwrtyd Post Office
I’ve lived here for 42 years since moving from Rhayader and there have been a lot of chagnes during that time but it’s a nice little place to live with plenty of things going on here – such as the bog snorkelling and Morris in the Forest - and people come from all over the place. There are plenty of good places to eat.

A lot of people don’t want to go away from here once they've visited. We're lucky that people are very supportive of community events in the village. When the bank was threatened with closure, it was quite a battle to keep it here but we managed to get it to open three days a week.
Wed Jul 14 15:44:17 2004

John Price, from Llanwrtyd
The air is good air and it's very active for a small town. It’s changed a lot over the years with new people moving into the area but there a friendly community feeling here. We hold a two- day concert in the Victoria Hall in March and all the local talent get together and start rehearsing in December for it. However, there’s no work to keep the locals here unless you are a member of the farming community. Youngsters still have to go away when they leave school to find jobs.
